The perfect blend of fitness and self-defense
Our Adult Martial Arts classes make an excellent workout. Each 45-minute class includes a thorough stretching routine, bursts of cardio-intense drills, plus body-weight and core-focused strength exercises. We have helped thousands of men and women achieve their personal goals in an atmosphere that is welcoming and motivating, and most of our adult students started with no previous experience at all.
Join us for dynamic, high-energy Tae Kwon Do training and connect with other members of the Naperville, Aurora and Bolingbrook communities. Whether you are looking for exercise, stress relief, self-defense or self-confidence, this is the class.
Tired of your boring gym routine?
Most exercise programs are repetitive, and machines limit your range of motion while working one muscle group at a time. In Tae Kwon Do you train your whole body while mastering dozens of kicks, blocks and strikes. You strengthen your arms, legs, back and chest, and you improve your flexibility, balance and reflexes at the same time. You will feel and look better within your first few months and enjoy greater energy every day.
You will also be surrounded by classmates who encourage and motivate you. We bet 45 minutes in the dojang feels a lot shorter than 45 minutes on a treadmill.
- A sustainable training routine to get active and build lean muscle
- Personalized guidance from experienced black belt instructors
- Practical self-defense skills for any situation
- A fun, exciting form of exercise you will actually stick with
Clear your mind, relax your body
Every class begins with a short, guided moment to center the mind and release the day, followed by a warm-up that has more in common with yoga than with boot camp: roughly ten minutes of gentle stretching for the arms, legs, hips and hamstrings. Then our master instructors tailor the drills to the ability level of the class and of each individual. You are never asked to do more than you can, but you are always challenged to reach a new level.
In the final portion of class you work in a smaller group with individual attention, learning self-defense techniques and forms. Forms, or poomsae, are choreographed sequences that strengthen the body and focus the mind. Many adult students find this the most enjoyable and beneficial part of the program.
What you learn carries into every part of life
Beyond fitness, the program gives you the opportunity to build confidence, cultivate self-discipline, reduce stress and anxiety, and practice the focus and leadership that help you aim higher in everything you do. That is why we say martial arts is not just a workout, it is a lifestyle. Our adults regularly tell us they are sharper at work and calmer at home.
It is never too late to start
Men and women in their 40s, 50s, 60s and beyond train with us, regaining range of motion, watching their energy levels climb and enjoying a new level of confidence. Aging is natural; declining fitness does not have to be. If you are a complete beginner, your free trial starts with a one-on-one session with a black belt instructor who walks you through basic techniques, gets a sense of your current fitness level and talks through your goals before you join the group. Adult classes run Monday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings and Saturday morning; see the schedule.

Frequently asked questions
I am out of shape. Can I still start?
Yes. Everyone starts at a different level and works at their own pace. Your trial begins one-on-one with an instructor, so you are never thrown into the deep end.
Is Tae Kwon Do good for weight loss?
It is an effective, varied, full-body workout that people actually look forward to, which is what makes it stick. Read our post on losing weight with Tae Kwon Do.
Do I have to spar?
Sparring is part of Tae Kwon Do, introduced gradually with protective gear and always at a level you are comfortable with. Many adults come to love it; nobody is forced.
Can I train with my kids?
Kids and adults train in separate, age-appropriate classes, but many families train on the same nights and Saturday mornings. See our family martial arts page.
